Hi i have a friend who is trying to sell me a roland rs 5.

I would like to start producing trance/tech house and techno would this be a good synth for me and how much should i pay for one of these 2nd hand?

If this synth is a complete load of b*****ks, which synth would you suggest.

If you haven't started producing yet, I wouldn't invest too much money in it...You may end up hating it, you never know!

I would put off buying a hardware synth for now if I were you...Perhaps getting a midi controller and a DAW would work better for ya at this stage? That's just me though..

That said, I wouldn't pay more than 300is0h (maybe a little more) for that particular synth. Aaaand....I don't know if it's good for trance or tech house.

It's not a bad synth. Fairly basic, but the sounds on it are not bad. I would buy something different or save up for something traditionally geared toward electronic music.

Vintage Synth Explorer is a great site loaded with descriptions or old synthesizers and drums machines. One of my favorite sites on the interwebz.

I just bought a Roland Fantom X6 and can't wait for it to arrive. How much are you looking to spend? I may be able to recommend something.

Many of the quality vintage synths are expensive as fuck, so some good software and a controller may be another route to consider.

Personally, I'd spend that money towards the DAW of your choice and a good MIDI controller. I think you would get loads more bang for the buck when you are just starting out. You'll always be able to spend thousands of bucks on hardware down the line when you know exactly what you'll need/want.

yah, i think you get the most bang for your buck by buying a midi keyboard and ableton live, and if you have any extra a good software VST like omnisphere... then eventually an apc40 for more knobs/buttons :-)

Cool, cheers guys, so im gunno go with software, now i just have to chose which one! I've got sony acid, but its really limiting so i will have to change this.

The reason i will go with the software is because of the price, and also, you put it on your laptop and you can make tracks whenever and where ever you want.

safe
