Hardstyle Beatmatching?

Where is the best place to beatmatch in hardstyle? It seems when song 1 is playing the main part, and I try beatmatch song 2 through the headphones, the clap intro on song 2 is really hard to hear since Song 1 is playing the hardest part of the track? :S

Where do people usually beatmatch?

You usually want to start bringing in the new track during the outro of the current track that is playing. There is usually less going on during this time and allows for a great transition. You dont always need to wait until then to mix, it all has to do with the tracks you are playing and when it sounds the best. You just really need to know your tracks. But to just get practice wait until the outro. While you are waiting for that section of the track you should be searching for a track with similar BPM and Key to mix. Just practice and stick at it! Good Luck!

Hardstyle can be mixed in a few diffrent ways. It can be done like how ZzZTime said (which is how i mix hardstyle normally). I like doing this especially if the incoming track has some great samples. But try a few diffrent things.

Try starting track B during the 2nd half of the hardest part of the tune.
Example:

Listen to this track: Josh & Wesz - Like Thiz

Click to open in a new window

Well call this track A.
Notice how between 3:03 and 3:16 theres that gap between the heavy bassline? Try starting Track B at 3:16, when the heavy bassline kicks back in. Depending on Track , the intro just before the kick of Track B should come up right after Track A's main bassline ends. At the correct moment, slam the fader to track B when the kick starts. Its hard to describe in words, but try it out, and you'll pick up what i mean.

This keeps the momentum going, as a way to build up your set. Its great for the peak time of your set. Dont do this too often, as if you keep building up you'll lose people because its not giving them a break to breath.

Theres also a few times where I just cannot mix two tracks together. I usually throw in Hard Dance to lower the intensity of the set, as alot of my hardstyle tracks are reallllyyy heavy. If im in a pinch, I find a part of Track B where theres a breakdown and slam the fader to it where ever I see fit. It can sound messy sometimes, but its great when your going from genre to genre, or when you need to mix fast.

Hopefully that gives you some new ideas, and new ways to play with it. Alot of people think hardstyle is too boring to mix, when it can truly become amazing if you know your tunes well.

I've always been a hardstyle fan, got me into the melbourne shuffle. I mix it for fun, but fun is all it is.

< am a Kandi Kid. You do have a point though, use colorful bastards love some hardstyle

Here in Texas it had a really popular streak a year or so ago, but now alot of clubs play Fidget House and crap like that. Dont get me wrong, I love me some wobbly bass, just not every goddamn time I go.
When Hardstyle is played at my local club, its done by someone who rarely spins it. They dont see its beauty that alot of us do, so they just play it from end to end. When a true Hardstyle DJ comes around, he owns the place.

Turn up your cue volume, I've never had a issue like that. Also, as said above most hardstyle tracks have a nice length intro/outro, try mixing one intro into another outro.

QFT. You can't go wrong with mixing an intro with an outro, it's very easy granted that you have the song as a single track and didn't get it from a pre-made mix. That's one of the mistakes I made as a beginner. My only source of songs was from previous DJ mixes and they didn't have an outro/intro to work with.

The easy method as I said earlier is not too bad, but I guess I just prefer mixing it within the song. I came from a background of mixing house, so Im used to putting tracks in the middle of others.

Has anyone else noticed that hardstyle DJ's are trying to scratch?
I enjoy turntablism, and Ive heard it done to many different Genres (Including HHC), but scratching to hardstyle is a bit akward. Especially when they scratch on the heavy bass section of the song. You can barely hear it.

i mix without even playing anything trhough my headphones and still manage to avoid trainwrecks. jus know what your mixing and find songs that would be good played over another song... i.e. any 2 songs on a album from one artist should be able to be played over each other if done correctly but this is not always the case. just study your music and it will be a easy breeze. like during parts of songs that are broke down i like to keep one track on my other deck going so the bass is constantly pounding with music playing softly over the voice and then wind up in a beat match and which ever one seems to be my dominant track i go back to. but thats just my style

1. Yes, using the crossfader. Some DJ's use upfaders when mixing, yes, but you seriously cannot say that all "professional" DJ's dont use them.

2. The OP is probably new at DJing, so give him a break

3. Definition of Candy Kids

There's nothing wrong with using the crossfader. That's like saying when you flip a vinyl record over, you shouldn't pivot it between your index fingers.

I love Hardstyle, it's actually the genre that got me into DJing. Either way, the way I usually mix hardstyle is I line up the claps during the second refrain of the main melody, as the claps usually are a full 16 or 32 bars (depending on the track). This allows for the melody to finish, and then one bassline fades into the next, and bingo, you have your matched set
