The EFX-1000 is maybe the best DJ effects unit ever made. It's got good-enough sound quality to run in a Urei effects loop, and it's *incredibly* deep. I'm concerned that the next-generation EFX will have a touch screen in it, which IMO will make it a lot less instrument-like.

I think that the last generation of Pioneer stuff struck the right balance between gadget and functionality, but that Pioneer's new generation is too fiddly to catch on in the same way.

Why is everyone focusing on the crossfader part? This feature is significant because you finally have more than 4 band EQ control from a professional mixer. In my mind the only reason it's done with crossfaders is because 7 knobs for each track would just be too complicated.

I personally do not see the Rane 68 catching on much in clubs. They're just far more likely to go for what is seen as the "industry standard" pioneer. The whole situation sucks in my opinion because one camp or the other will be left in the cold. Traktor already has out of the box support for the two new CDJ's. I'm sure we can assume that they'll support the DJM's internal soundcard as well. However, I highly doubt that Serato will support it. All the Traktor DJ will have to do is plug in a USB cable to get 4 channels. The Serato DJ will still have to fiddle with all those cables and still only get 2 channels.

I think it depends on the club size and type, but I think the 68 has a much greater chance of catching on that the 2000 for the following reasons:

- SSL is more widespread that Traktor

- the 68 is more utilitarian than the 2000

- the footprint of the 68 is smaller

- i suspect that the new CDJs will support SSL--doesn't the CDJ 400 have native SSL control? so why wouldn't the 900 and 2000?

yeah probably but that's Native HID mode, all you leave at home is the cds not the serato box - which is the feature we want to see but won't (imo).

talk about redundancy tho, all these soundcards and we still have to bring the serato box.

ah, go it. but this actually speaks to an advantage of the 68 over the 2000 for SSL users.

yeah, it would be nice if SSL could adopt a simple usb dongle and allow other sound cards to work with the software.

SSL just needs to start offering certification like NI does so people don't have to deal with this sort of thing, of course that would cut into their profits so I wouldn't count on it. Then again I guess they sort of are doing that with their ITCH collaborations, so who knows.

I think since Rane makes Mixers is not in their behalf to help competition

+1. I'm pretty sure Rane/Serato have an exclusive partnership going on for mixers/SSL analog audio interfaces and it benefits neither party to mess up a good thing.

Serato already has ITCH for pure digital solutions so they have this option covered as well.

Without reading through this entire thread, it's a damn cool mixer and I'm REALLY jealous of the instrument effects, but in all honesty that screen is WAY too small to have multi touch controls going on, especially for frequency mixing. Screen should have either been bigger, or have dedicated controls IMO. It even looks like they're struggling to get it 100% of the way across in the demo video.

Don't get me wrong, I love touch technology, but if I ever get enough green to pay for a 3 grand mixer, I wanna be able to drunkenly mix while upside down and getting my d*** fondled by a tranny. I can already see touch being an issue in a nightclub with sweaty hands and crap like that.

But maybe I'm just being a hater...

It's not an EQ for each channel though, you can't turn any single band up on both channels at the same time (or down.) It's seven crossfaders. Significant or not, I predict that most DJs will find this feature exactly as useful during a live mix as the triple crossfader array in the RedSound InFader.

Personally, I don't even like the four-band EQs on the Xone:92, I prefer three-band a lot more. I know I'm not the only one.

@Penguin > it has the ability to do 3, 5 or 7 faders on that screen, and thanks to multitouch, it's hella easy to use.

I would rather use ableton and a zone than that. The freq mix looks interesting though.

If you were to sell the two CDJ2000s and the DJM2000 in that video, you would have enough money to save a ghetto.
